Lentelus Farms
Armed with a degree in sustainable forestry and conservation from The University of British Columbia paired with years of farming experience back in Bo-Kouga, South Africa, Dave is truly destined to be a farmer. The name "Lentelus" translates into "joy for spring" and is a nod to his late grandfather, a philosopher, writer, cook and farmer, Marthinus Versfeld.

Regenerative and restorative
Utilizing a balance between theoretical scientific knowledge, practical skills and work ethic, Dave has a strong passion for creating sustainable solutions for the agricultural industry. For example, they feed their hogs and chickens their own spray-free grains that are grown right here in the Comox Valley, as well as a ration of locally mixed non-gmo hog feed (primarily made from oats, barley and peas).
Free to roam
The hogs and chicken are 100% pasture raised and are allowed to express their true nature here at Lentelus Farms. Pigs get to roll in the mud, forage on fresh pasture, socialize and play in groups. These pigs are a cross between the following breeds: Large Black, Wild Boar, Berkshire, Tamworth and Duroc.
Sustainable consumption
"Eat less meat, but eat better meat" is a line you'll often hear from Dave. Lentelus farms promotes the sustainable consumption of meat and their products are 100% free of antibiotics, growth hormones or steroids, GMOs and are not subjected to any of the inhumane practices considered standard operation procedures in confinement operations, like farrowing crates, teeth clipping and the clipping of tails on baby piglets.
Year Round Outdoor Access
Chickens from Lentelus Farms are fed a diet of non-GMO barley, oats and peas and have year-round access to either fresh pasture or grass silage. Dave from Lentelus Farms believes that by providing their chickens with year-round access to fresh pasture or grass silage, they can provide a tastier and healthier product.
