Using & storing
This will really vary depending on the size of your order, but since the cuts are tightly vacuum packed or wrapped you can store way more meat in your freezer then you might think. And if freezer space is tight you can keep some meat in your fridge for up to 5 days with no ill effects. The meat will take approximately 24 hours to defrost in your fridge then can be safely consumed within 72 hours once completely defrosted. The meat is flat packed and quite easy to fit in a standard fridge-top (or sliding bottom) freezer.
Our vacuum sealed packages should be consumed within 1 year of the processing date on the package. Good luck making this tasty meat last that long though!
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, any food stored at exactly 0°F is safe to eat indefinitely. The USDA says that keeping food frozen "prevents the growth of microorganisms that cause both food spoilage and foodborne illness." However, we have an ongoing promise that your products are never packaged and kept for more than 6 months at our storage facilities.
The best way to defrost meat is in the fridge, and taking the package out of the freezer the day before is usually plenty of time to do this. However, if you’ve forgotten or are in a rush, you can quickly and safely defrost (vacuum packed) meat you intend to cook right away by immersing it in cold water or run cold water over it to hasten the defrosting process. Health Canada has lots of tips for safely defrosting meat here.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Yes! Our boxes are made of recycled material, and are entirely recyclable. Even the metallic lining can be recycled with your other paper products.
We are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint, but unfortunately we cannot take back boxes or ice packs at this time. The boxes (including lining) can be entirely recycled with other paper products and the gel packs can be drained into the garbage and recycled with soft plastics.
